Limited Edition Giclee Print By Jill Tattersall 8" x 12"

I was inspired to paint this scene from a passage in the late J.R.O'Neal's delightful autobiography, Life Notes, where he describes going to Virgin Gorda as a boy to help gather and heat the Pitch Apples, (sometimes known as Balsam fruit as it also grew in and around Balsam Ghut) as well as to enjoy swimming off the Baths.  Pitch for caulking the planks of boats was made by heating the apples on a sheet of galvanized iron pierced with holes until the black tar ran out into the large pot of boiling water balanced on the fire beneath.
