Basket Makers of Road Town
Basket Makers of Road Town
Limited Edition Giclee Print By Jill Tattersall 12" x 8"
I have set these basket makers on the steps behind Fonseca's corner among the ruins of one of the old Romney houses, now delightfully restored and painted in alluring shades of peach and lavender. As an Occupational Therapist I had to learn a lot about making baskets, but at least we were able to buy the raw materials ready to work. Here, the Hoop Vine or Basket Wiss has to be gathered from the ghuts, then split stripped and cleaned before it can be woven into the fine quality baskets of the BVI.
The couple in this painting will soon be shaded by the lovely Flamboyant Tree that delighted our summers on this spot, until it was recently cut down. I couldn't resist throwing three cats and a lizard into the mix.
