Domestic scenes like this were common in the 60’s, with women working at various tasks while the men were off at sea, building boats or houses, or cultivating their land. There were always children around and almost every woman under the age of forty seemed to be pregnant. I set this scene in the pretty Pickering House, near the Hospital.
