In East End we first saw concrete houses being built around their original wooden ones, but Mr Dawson's shop seemed to have evolved from an earlier stone ruin, partly plastered over. The women on the right are bringing their wholesale goods to sell: one is the baker's wife, the other a fisherman's wife who is obviously better off as she is wearing shoes, normally only kept for church and formal occasions.
