Making Cooper Island Beach

Limited Edition Giclee Print By Jill Tattersall 8" x 12"

This painting illustrates something I heard from Jack Fuller of Cooper Island during Tony Snell's 90th birthday party at the Last Resort. I asked if he had any old memories of Cooper Island, and was delighted to hear that he recalled seeing Cornelius Leonard (a local fisherman) out in the sea with his donkey, scooping up sand to make the beach on his land at Manchineel Bay, where the Cooper Island Beach Club would be built. When planning this painting I remembered having seen seine nets hung from palm trees (planted by Mr Leonard) along that beach, and that gave me the idea to do a man throwing a cast net off to the left and the three fish laughing as they easily escaped.
