The row of palm trees on the seaside of the road through Carrot Bay was a favorite place for fishermen to hang their nets. I learned that the different colours each had their uses, black for trawling deep water, green for the shallows. The nets had to be searched carefully for holes and were expertly mended with home-made twine.
