Road Town Cooks

Limited Edition Giclee Print By Jill Tattersall 12" x 8"

Cooking was often done outside where it was cooler and fires could more safely be lit. This group is working behind the Old Cockle Shop, in the useful space where fish pots used to be made, with a Pink Poui tree in the foreground. A fisherman is bringing a Princess Parrotfish and a Glasseye Snapper to the table. One woman is bent over a basket of eggs bought from Skipper Evans, checking them for cracks, and a boy is bringing a bucket of water. Up on the right, another woman is grating coconut, watched by her daughter. The grater is made from a board pierced through with many nails, which I first saw in use in Carrot Bay.
