An old photograph of West End revealed two long lines of seine nets drying from poles set along the shore, among a variety of wooden rowing boats, giving me the inspiration for this painting. Fishermen often wove their own seine nets in those days out of the same Hoop Vine, or Wiss, that was used for basket making.
